Proper use of PeopleSoft Effective Dating - PDF

By Joseph Weessies

Purpose of effective dating

Effective dating is used in PeopleSoft to allow you to store and maintain the same set of data over time so that you can see the past, current and future conditions of this set of data. For example, think of currency conversion where you want to store not only what the conversion rate is now, but also what it was in the past so that you can accurately report your financial position. Effective dating is not just where you have a date in your data like a Purchase Order Due Date or Employee Hire Date.

Many developers, including PeopleSoft developes, do not fully understand the proper use of effective dating in writing SQL, PeopleCode or in Pages. This training document is to cover this issue so that no longer are developers not using the effective date incorrectly.
